NFL: Costly defeat for the Packers, who lose Aaron Rodgers

Summary

The Green Bay Packers suffered a seventh loss in their last eight games, but it could well cost even more than the others. In addition to losing 40-33 to the mighty Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay (4-8) lost the services of its quarterback Aaron Rodgerswho left the game late in the third quarter.

“I’m not sure exactly when, but in the third quarter I was going to call a pass and he wasn’t feeling good,” head coach Matt LaFleur said. We used the ground game a lot at that time. When he threw, he leaned over and he was in pain. He is one of the toughest players. He apologized to me, but he didn’t have to. I will never question that. »

After the game, Rodgers admitted the injury happened in the second quarter and got worse afterward. Rodgers admitted to having difficulty breathing. Rodgers underwent a few tests when he left the encounter, but the results weren’t all conclusive.

Already bothered by a thumb injury for a few weeks, which could force him to resort to surgery, Rodgers injured his obliques against the Eagles (10-1), the team reported. He left the game having completed 11 passes for 140 yards in the air, in addition to throwing two touchdowns.

“I wouldn’t say he will have to sit out for the rest of the season. We will have to discuss it, but if he is ready to play, he will be on the field,” commented LaFleur after the game, he who had no more information about the next few weeks.

“I don’t think I will have to miss the rest of the season,” Rodgers added. If everything is okay tomorrow, I expect to play this weekend. If there is no major injury, I expect to play. »

This defeat of the Packers considerably reduces the chances of the team to reach the playoffs, it which has a record of four wins and eight losses.

“We have to be better,” admitted LaFleur.

As for the Eagles, the ground route was the key to victory. The quarterback Jalen Hurts rushed the ball 17 times for 157 yards, while the running back Miles Sanders had 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Kenneth Gainwell also scored a rushing major.

Through the air, Hurts threw two touchdown passes and completed 16 passes for 153 yards. A.J. Brown et Quez Watkins are the receivers who scored the touchdowns.

The Eagles scored a whopping 27 points in the first two quarters to build a seven-point lead.

Gainwell first opened the scoring with a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter, before teammate Sanders also scored a touchdown moments later to increase the lead to 13 points.

Green Bay, however, played the same trick on the Eagles by registering two consecutive Majors. A.J. Dillon first put the Packers in the scoring with a 20-yard run, then Rodgers completed his first touchdown pass of the game to Randall Cobb to give his team a 14-13 lead.

The cue was served by Sanders. On the first play of the second quarter, Sanders swung for two yards to give a six-point lead to Philly.

Rodgers, however, made sure not to leave the Eagles in charge for too long. This time he joined Aaron Jones for a 23-yard touchdown pass that tied Green Bay 20-20 midway through the second quarter.

Before retreating to the locker room for halftime, Hurts put his shoulder to the wheel by completing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Watkins to put the Eagles back in the driver’s seat.

Hurts picked up where he left off back in the third quarter. He threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this time to Brown, to increase Philadelphia’s lead to 14 points.

Green Bay added two field goals and Christian Watson scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but their efforts were insufficient to recover.

Time is running out for the Packers, who will have to quickly find a way to win games. They will have a great opportunity to triumph next Sunday, when the team will face the Bears (3-9). The Eagles will be entitled to a good challenge as they have an appointment with the Titans (7-4).

“We can’t look any further than our next opponents, who are division rivals. We have to live in the moment, with the position we are in,” LaFleur said.
