Sven Liebich, classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a right-wing extremist, is threatened with a new trial. The public prosecutor’s office in Halle (Saale) has accused him of around 30 cases, reports the MDR. He is charged with incitement to hatred, insult, defamation and violation of the Art Copyright Act. Liebich is said to have committed the crimes at demonstrations and on the Internet since 2019. The district court in Halle is examining whether there will be a trial.
Among other things, it is about a baseball bat with the inscription “deportation helper”, which Liebich is said to have sold via an online shop. He advertised the baseball bats with a video. There it said, “Exercise, do sports, become a deportation helper.” In animations, top politicians are hit by balls. The use of the “Z” symbol, used by the Russian army in its war of aggression against Ukraine, is also the subject of the indictment.
In October, Liebich was sentenced to ten months’ imprisonment on probation by the Halle Regional Court for defamation and hate speech, among other things. Now the Higher Regional Court of Naumburg has to decide on Liebich’s appeal. The district court wants to wait for the final verdict before deciding on the new charges.
