The NBA has suspended Los Angeles Lakers point guard Patrick Beverley for three games following an incident he starred in Wednesday night when he shoved Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton to the ground.
Former star guard Joe Dumars, the league’s current vice president and head of basketball operations, released the suspension, arguing that Beverley has a dismal record of unsportsmanlike plays, which led to more penalty games in this case.
The incident occurred with just under four minutes remaining in the final quarter, when Patrick Beverley knocked Deandre Ayton to the ground who seconds before had abruptly displaced Austin Reeves.
It was a bad day in the NBA for Beverley and the Lakers, a team that saw a three-game winning streak snapped, when they fell 115-105 against the Suns themselves. The former Clippers and Timberwolves player had no points even though he had grabbed 10 rebounds in 29 minutes before being ejected from the game.
“I’m a fan of protecting my teammates and Ayton had badly shoved Austin Reeves seconds before so there was nothing I could do but help my teammate,” Beverly told ESPN.
Regardless of the Deandre Ayton theme, Patrick Beverley has not been able to make a difference within some Lakers who have the second worst record in the Western Conference of the NBA.
