BARI – The Court of Assizes of Appeal of Bari has condemned Antonio Ripoli, 36 years old, to the penalty of 16 years in prison for the murder with gunshots of the 43-year-old offender Antonio Scaglioso, carried out in Bari on 12 March 2018 in the Catino district. The sentence was issued in the referral proceedings after the annulment by the Cassation of the first appeal process for formal issues. According to the investigations of the Bari Dda, which on 16 March 2018 led to the arrest of the accused, the crime took place at the end of a dispute that began on Facebook. Two sisters, Angela and Pasqua Mari (the first wife of the victim, the second beaten with a baseball bat), faced each other after insults between family members live on Facebook for not being invited to a birthday party. The spark would have been a rude gesture made on video. Angela’s husband, Scaglioso, armed with a pistol, allegedly intervened in the argument. Other family members would intervene in defense of his sister Pasqua, including his son-in-law Antonio Ripoli, also armed with a pistol, who allegedly shot and killed the 43-year-old. Ripoli, after four days on the run, surrendered to the police who notified him of a detention order for the crime of murder aggravated by the mafia method, illegal possession and carrying of a firearm. In the first instance trial, celebrated with an abbreviated rite, the investigating judge sentenced Ripoli to 17 years with the exclusion of the mafia aggravating circumstance.
