Milwaukee continues flawless, Lakers finally emerge

The Milwaukee Bucks of Giannis Antetokounmpo (32 points, 12 rebounds) suffered a seventh victim in as many games, winning 116-91 against Detroit on Wednesday, during an NBA evening also marked by success at the snatched from the Lakers against New Orleans (120-117 ap).

At the start of the season, nothing can resist Milwaukee, and certainly not the Detroit Pistons, swept away by the troupe of Antetokounmpo, who enhanced his double-double with five interceptions and four assists. The Greek giant was well supported in attack by Jrue Holiday, author of 26 points including four three-point baskets.

Led from the first quarter, the Pistons then saw the score swell inexorably, recording a seventh defeat in nine games – the second worst record in the Eastern Conference.

This broad success, on the contrary, allows the Bucks to retain the lead alone, resisting the galloping Cavaliers, who validated a sixth success in a row (for a defeat) at the end of the suspense against the Boston Celtics (114-113 ap) .

In this shock, Cleveland was able to count on the decisive contribution of Darius Garland, back after an eye injury. Absent for five games, the young leader of the Cavs (22) has stacked 29 points, 12 assists and five rebounds. Late in the game, Donovan Mitchell (25 points in total), recently transferred from Utah, joined the party, Jaylen Brown missing the basket of victory for the Celtics (4 v., 3 d.) on the buzzer.

“I felt good from my first successful shot, I was not bothered by my eye,” commented Darius Garland, who is entering his 4th season with the Cavs. “We were particularly aggressive in the last five minutes and I’m really happy with this victory,” added the 2022 All Stars, while also rejoicing in Mitchell’s performance.

“He brings a lot to the team. (…) He participated many times in the play-offs and brings this experience there (…). He helped me a lot”, he noted.

– 33 pts pour Doncic –

In the Western Conference, it’s not yet time for big celebrations for the Lakers, but the LA franchise, after opening its counter against the Nuggets on Sunday, recorded a second success, against New Orleans (120- 117 ap), one of the teams in form at the start of the season.

If LeBron James achieved the double-double (20 pts, 10 rebounds), the Californian hero of the day is called Matt Ryan, author on the buzzer of a three-point basket allowing the Lakers to push the Pelicans into overtime, at 111 everywhere.

Over the whole match, it was Lonnie Walker IV who was the leading scorer (28 points) for LA, now on the hunt for a more balanced record – it is currently 2-5.

The game was almost as close in Portland, where the Blazers lost 111-106 to Memphis, carried by 29 points from fullback Desmond Bane.

In the standings, the Grizzlies (5-3) are getting closer to Portland (5-2), which on the contrary misses the opportunity to join the Phoenix Suns (6-1) at the top of the conference.

Finally, in Dallas, the Slovenian Luka Doncic continued his series by registering for the seventh time of the season 30 points or more (33 in this case, accompanied by 11 assists), on the occasion of the victory of the Mavericks against Utah Jazz (103-100).
