Miguel Ángel Russo could be coach of Nacional de Uruguay, where Alex Castro plays | Other Soccer Leagues

Miguel Ángel Russo is one of the candidates to lead Nacional de Montevideo, a team that has just become champion of the Uruguayan league with coach Pablo Repetto and, on the pitch, with Luis Suárez.

The 66-year-old Argentine with a past in Millionaires would return to South American football and meet Colombian Alex Castro, who is part of the “Bolso” squad.

Russo arrived in Montevideo this Thursday to hold a meeting with the tricolors.

He is a coach that is liked at Nacional, but it does not mean that he will be the next coach of the club after the departure of Pablo Repetto. What he sought in the first instance was to have a meeting to get to know each other and also listen to the intentions of the DT.

The last club that Russo directed was one of the largest and most popular in Saudi Arabia: Al Nassr, an institution in which he was with the Uruguayan physical trainer Jorge Rey, who worked in the Uruguayan national team with the teacher Tabárez in the last stage of the process. . The DT was in Arabia until June 30.

Russo has an extensive career directing important clubs in America, among which are Boca Juniors, Cerro Porteño, Alianza Lima, Millonarios, Rosario Central, Estudiantes, Racing (Argentina), San Lorenzo, Vélez, Lanús and Universidad de Chile, among others. .

In the xeneizes he directed in two passages, the last one was recently between January 2020 and July 2021, where he was champion of the 2019/2020 Argentine Super League and the 2020 League Cup; he also won the Copa Libertadores in 2007, when he won the final against Gremio de Porto Alegre.

It is worth remembering that there are other names on the National work table, among which are, among others, that of Chino Álvaro Recoba (today in the Third Division of the club) and Jorge Bava.
