Magnificent fifth place for Demetrio Pinto, from Badminton Zamora, in the Spanish Championship

The Badminton Zamora He has returned from the Spanish Championship for sub11 and sub19 categories, magnificent fifth place.

The Under-11 Demetrio Pintoafter several months climbing to the first drawer of the podium in all the competitions in which he has participated, entered this Spanish Championship as number 7 in the national ranking in the men’s singles modality, and number 3 in the men’s doubles, together with his partner Diego Muñoz from Valladolid.

In individual men, the man from Zamora had an impeccable group stage, winning his two games with comfortable scores in two sets, with a good game, against high-level rivals, such as the number 1 in the community of Navarra, or one of the best players in the Balearic Islands, in short, it was time to face the best players on the national scene.

At the round of 16, with direct elimination, Demetrio had a difficult match, in which he lost the first set and had to come back. Thanks to his confidence, he was able to tie the match, forcing the third and final set. With heart-stopping points and a score against, he managed to overcome a 12-8 deficit, finally winning 16-14.

Already in the quarterfinals, due to luck in the draw, he faced the number 1, and here, despite fighting and competing showing a great level, he was defeated by 15-10/15-9, entering in this way among the 8 best players in the country.

In double U11 male, Demetrio Pinto represented Zamora partnering with Diego Muñoz (CB Valladolid). They attended the event as the number 3 couple in the national ranking, thanks to the good season they have had. Again the medals were close, falling in the decisive match wasting an advantage in the third set of 8-6. Nerves and luck fell on the side of the Andalusian couple, who were ultimately finalists in the competition, depriving the Zamorano and his teammate from Valladolid of a pass to the semifinal.

Sub-19

In the sub19 category, the representatives from Zamora were Natalia Colino and Eric Casas in the modality of mixed doubles. After their good results, a creditable fifth place in the Spanish sub-17 championship, held two weeks ago, they managed to enter this higher category, the sub-19, which was already a success. But this couple was not satisfied with their participation in this competition, and in the round of 16, they played what has been their best game since its inception, putting their opponents in trouble, finally losing by a tight 21-19/21 -18. Great competition from both who predict that the next two seasons in the sub19 category will come loaded with good results for badminton from Zamora.

Great performance by CD Badminton Zamora, a club that step by step is gaining a foothold at the national level, achieving this season the best results since its inception with two fifth places in Spanish championships. Now comes the time for the seniors, Aitor Llandres and Raúl López in the Senior Spanish Championship to be held next weekend in Gijón.
