Judokas go to qualifying Central American and Caribbean Games

SANTO DOMINGO. The superior national judo teams will take part in the Central American and Caribbean Judo Cup to be held from the 13th to the 27th of this month in Panama City.

The tournament will award points for the Central American and Caribbean Games that will take place next year in El Salvador.

The participation of the Dominican delegation in the qualifier has been possible with the support of the Grupo Creando Sueños Olímpicos (Creso) and the Ministry of Sports.

In addition to the country’s men’s and women’s teams, a children’s delegation made up of five judokas will also see action at the U-13 and U-15 Pan American Championships.

The top women’s team that will participate in the qualifier is made up of Estefanía Soriano, in the 48 kilos; Coral Velásquez, in 52 kilos; Katherine Otaño, in the 70 kilograms, and Moira Morillo, in more than 78 kilos.

The male representation is made up of Robert Florentino, in less than 90 kilos; José Nova, in more than 100 kilograms; Medickson del Orbe, in less than 81 kilograms, and Antonio Tornal, of 73 kilograms.

Also included are Antfernee Pepín, in more than 60 kilos; Elmert Ramírez, in less than 66 kilos, and Ariel Lorenzo, in the 100 kilos, in addition to coach Wander Mateo.

The children’s team is made up of Ezequiel Pérez, in the 34 kilograms, while Karla Tolentino and Diego García will compete in the 44 kilograms, while Ernesto Bournigal will compete in the 47 kilograms, and Carlos Pérez, in more than 64 kilos for men.

In addition to the athletes, the referees Mindry Marte and Ramón Santiago also made the trip. The children’s team is accompanied by coach Víctor Jacinto.
