16 years after the organization of the French championship at the Laval multipurpose hall, the gratin of French judo will once again meet in Mayenne in May 2023. “All the French world and Olympic champions will be present”, says Vincent Landau, adviser federal technical judo in Mayenne.

Among them will be Teddy Riner or Clarisse Agbegnenou. “They have to come. Teddy Riner is an employee of his club. This is the only opportunity to represent him over the year. Even if he is injured, he will be present, ”says Vincent Landau.

Hosting this French championship is a godsend for Mayenne because “the president of the Federation wants this competition to be linked to a place and to take place every year in Paris”, according to Vincent Landau.

This championship will take place over two days, May 27 and 28.

Olympic champions from Wednesday

Upstream of the French championship, the “Itinéraire des Champions”, an event organized by the French Judo Federation, will also take place at the Espace Mayenne, the Wednesday May 24 and Thursday May 25.

“It’s a big event with champions from yesterday and today that reaches a wide audience: schoolchildren, clubs, a disabled audience, an audience of elderly people…”, specifies Vincent Landau.

The names of the champions present are not yet known. “There are often one or two former Olympic champions. The current champions are present in the event of injury, for example, ”slips the federal technical adviser.

Two events on the same day at Espace Mayenne

With the organization of the “Itinéraire des Champions”, the Espace Mayenne will host two events on the same day. The Boucles de la Mayenne also take place on Thursday 25 May. “We didn’t choose, we didn’t know, admits Vincent Landau. It’s more a problem of stewardship, especially at the hotel level. »

For its part, the Étoile Lavalloise could potentially play a first leg semi-final of the play-offs on Saturday May 27, if it finishes 3rd or 4th in D1. In the event of 1st or 2nd place, the question will not arise because the Laval residents will automatically play this match away.
