Judo adds a medal for Tierra del Fuego in the Araucanía Binational Games

Fuegian athletes continue to leave everything in the Araucanía Binational Games. On the penultimate day of competition, Marianela Aguilar won the silver medal in the women’s judo category up to 78 kilos, while Federico Peña (fifth place in his category up to 90 kilos) and Josué Cruz (eliminated in the first round up to 81 kilos ).

Aguilar managed to go through the qualifying round undefeated and in the semifinals she displayed all her capacity facing her partner from Rio Negro, whom she beat by Golden Scrore (8min). Then the Fuegian judoka was measured against the representative of Bío Bío but was defeated after 4 more minutes of combat.

In team sports, the positive results did not accompany the provincial delegation. In women’s volleyball, Rodrigo Gómez’s girls lost to Chubut (21-19 in the break time), with a final score of 3-2 for the Chubutenses. The men of the Fuegian team also lost against the Neuquén team by 3 sets to 0 and will fight to reach seventh place against Los Ríos.

The women had a good day in soccer with a victory on penalties against Aysén after 0-0 in regular time, at the Schilling stadium in the city of Osorno. The men’s soccer team fell in the penalty shootout against the representative of Ñuble (4-2), after equaling 0-0 in regular time.

For its part, cycling had its third day of action in the games this Friday. This is the individual time trial where Gabriel Salguero from Tierra del Fuego stood out, achieving an important 15th place. Further back came Ignacio Sánchez (45), Eros Pintos (53), Joaquín Giorgetta (56) and Alexis Chambi (58). Among the ladies, the Fuegians continue to gain experience in this type of competition. Victoria Spahn was the best performer coming in 37th, while the ladies were Alma Cufre (39) and Yasmin Calvismonti (40). This Saturday the last Araucanía test will be held, the 60-kilometer “street” (at 09:00).

Finally, the basketball boys, in the city of Castro, beat Magallanes by 84 to 79, in an entertaining game and later lost to Los Lagos by 81 to 67. For their part, the girls of the basketball team, without achieving a positive result, they were quickly out of competition.
