Judo is a martial art and combat sport of Japanese origin. The Japanese term can be translated as “the smooth path.” This martial art was created by the master Jigorō Kanō in 1882. The master Kano compiled the technical and tactical essence of two of the ancient schools of Japanese hand-to-hand combat or jujitsu, these were the Tenjin Shin’yō-ryū, and the Kitō -ryū, which were based on hand-to-hand fighting and were practiced by medieval warriors in armor or samurai on the battlefield, until the beginning of the 19th century in Japan.
