Japanese “sold out painter” sharply points out Ukrainian murals that “do not look like Banksy” | Asagei Biz

The official Twitter account of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine uploaded a mural with a message on November 12th. There was a Banksy-esque graffiti of a little boy throwing a large man in a judo uniform. Since other murals have been uploaded to Banksy’s official Instagram, it has been pointed out that this mural is also Banksy’s work.

Kenta Nakajima, a painter who appeared on TOKYO MX “Barairo Dandy” broadcast on November 15, expressed his opinion about this mural. Speaking of Mr. Nakajima, he is known as a “sold-out painter” who has sold out more than 700 works so far, and his portrait of actress Nozomi Sasaki has just become a hot topic on the Internet.

“Are you really Banksy?”

Mr. Nakajima, who raised this issue on the program, released a portrait of Ryo Fukawa, the program MC, that he drew that morning. He explained that the work that he created by incorporating Banksy’s technique is exactly Banksy’s touch, and that anyone can draw with a stencil sheet and spray.

At the moment, Banksy’s Instagram has three works depicting gymnasts standing upside down, and it is reported as a heroic episode that Banksy went to Ukraine to paint a mural. However, according to Mr. Nakajima, Banksy can do the process of cutting out the stencil and finishing with a spray by just sending the data.

Furthermore, Mr. Nakajima pointed out that this Banksy work is “unlike”. After stating that Banksy is an artist who is very good at raising and visualizing problems, the boy throwing away a man who looks like Putin said, “It’s obvious that Russia is bad and Europe is not bad. Banksy’s anti-establishment attitude was that Russia was bad, but NATO was bad too.” I went out of my way to Ukraine to create something like a dichotomy between good and evil…”

Furthermore, regarding Banksy, who has been active since the 90’s, he raised the question, “I’ve been a masked artist for 30 years. Even if I’ve been replaced somewhere, maybe… Is Banksy really what I’m doing now?”

“In the topic of Banksy, he mentioned a mural of a Banksy-style mouse found in Tokyo in 2019. Governor Yuriko Koike jumped on the mural and opened it to the public, setting a precedent for a world-famous artist to not be punished for violating the law. Mr. Nakajima’s comments, which cut straight into not only art but also politics, were well received by viewers, and he was flooded with offers from commercial wide shows. That’s right.” (entertainment reporter)

The appearance of Banksy’s work in Ukraine seems to have spread to Governor Koike.
