Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Player Iranian National Team threatened with sanctions from their countries after refusing to sing the national anthem in World Cup 2022.

Iran’s national team players chose not to sing the national anthem against England at the 2022 World Cup in the inaugural Group B match at Khalifa Stadium, Al Rayyan, on Monday (21/11) evening.

Iran’s 11 core players remained silent and did not open their mouths as the Iranian national anthem played at the Khalifa International Stadium.

The actions of the Iranian national team players were carried out as a form of their support for the demonstrators in their country.

As is known, for more than two months there have been major demonstrations in Iran which were triggered by the death of a young woman in the custody of the morality police.

But the actions of Iranian players refusing to sing the national anthem at the 2022 World Cup have raised new problems.

Mehdi Chamran said their country never allowed anyone to insult their national anthem.

“We will never allow anyone to insult our national anthem and flag. Iranian civilization has a history of several thousand years; this civilization is as old as the total civilization of Europe and America,” Chamran was quoted as saying by Arab News.
