Mats Hummels (33) is not one of the 26 German stars who are going to Qatar for the World Cup. The BVB defender impressed with strong performances this season, including against top stars like Erling Haaland (22/ManCity).

But not enough for national coach Hansi Flick (57), he instead opted for perspective player Armel Bella-Kotchap (20) from FC Southampton. Flick did not give a real reason for not considering Hummels. The 2014 world champion then spoke of “one of the biggest disappointments of my career.”
