How tennis shoes made it from the Grand Slam tournament to our shoe closets

Tennis shoes have become the most popular shoes of our time. It feels like everyone wears them all over the world. You can find out how this came about here:

Sneakers as footwear on the feet have felt completely natural for years – whether in a suit or with shorts. Most of us take this for granted, but its popularity today had to be achieved. The sneaker has had a long journey that has taken it from sport to the street and then to the catwalk. The original athletic use of the shoes is largely irrelevant today.

Whether limited editions, numbered editions or exclusive collaborations – the sneaker has become a cross-generational phenomenon. Originally designed for the sporty among us, the target audience is now much more diverse and generally heterogeneous. Air Jordans, for example, are enjoying great popularity right now, despite being designed as a basketball shoe for Michael Jordan as number 23 on the Chicago Bulls team. Every sport now has its own optimal footwear. From a purely visual point of view, tennis shoes have always been our favourites. Minimalist in white and made of high-quality leather, they are the classic everyday companions. From the Stan Smith to the latest models, tennis icons have used their names and fame to make shoes popular.
