Guenther Steiner hopes to have a definite answer about the last seat before the GP of Brazil

The last seat in Formula 1 is available with the Haas team and the battle for that place seems to be between compatriots Nico Hulkenberg and Mick Schumacher. Although nothing is yet final, team boss Guenther Steiner says a deal is close and he expects a decision for next week’s Sao Paolo grand prix.

Following Logan Sergeant’s announcement with the Williams team, there is only one seat left for 2023 and it is available with the Haas team. Schumacher hopes of course to join the American team again next year next to Kevin Magnussen, but Steiner and associates seem to postpone the decision as long as possible. The Italian has recently been mysterious in the media about the chances of his German pupil and in the corridors Hulkenberg’s name also sings around with some regularity at the current number eight in the constructors’ championship.

Hulkenberg

Hulkenberg himself is eager to get going again at the highest level and the American racing stable also seems to be charmed by that option. After Aston Martin announced on Tuesday that Stoffel Vandoorne will be the new test and reserve driver alongside Felipe Drugovich at the team, the rumors surrounding the German have only further fueled. He himself recently indicated that he has good hopes. “At the moment I can’t say anything specific yet. In the end I won’t make the decisions. Negotiations are still ongoing and I’m relatively optimistic about the process. You have to be patient with these kinds of decisions.”

Quick answer

Although everyone is anxiously waiting for news from the American racing stable, there seems to be no hurry for the time being. However, it is quite possible that we will have the line-up for 2023 complete for the next race, according to Steiner’s words to RTL.” href=”https://www.rtl.de/cms/formel-1-weiter-kein-bekenn-zu-schumacher-haas-schluss-wohl-noch-vor-brasilien-5014203.html” target=”_blank “>RTL. “We are close,” says the Italian. It is also aimed at an announcement before the Grand Prix of Brazil. “For me it’s not about one race or one lap. For me it’s about what’s best for Haas in the medium to long term,” concludes Steiner.
