Gualeguaychú won five medals in the national finals of the Evita games – El Día de Gualeguaychú

The 2022 edition of the Evita National Games has ended, which took place from October 24 to 29 in the city of Mar del Plata, which were postponed for two years due to the pandemic.

The athletes of our city, forming part of the Ente Ríos delegation, enjoyed the maximum sporting event, where on the last night of Friday 29, as the closing of the games, the ceremony was held in the Plazoleta Almirante Brown, which included musical shows, the famous “Bresh” party and the presentation of the Fair Play Cup, in which the athletes from La Rioja were the winners.

The local delegation, which achieved its pass to the national instance, was made up of 58 athletes and 15 technical assistants, which represented a record of participation of the city in the event. The disciplines represented were Basketball 5×5, Basketball 3×3, Swimming, Boxing, Athletics, Handball, Beach Handball, Adapted Sports (swimming and goalball), Women’s Rugby and Archery.

In the sports balance, there were 5 medals that the sport of Gualeguaychú added: three gold, one silver and one bronze, in a performance never achieved before.

In Basketball 3×3 U14 Men, the Gualeguaychú team made up of Nahir Martínez, Benjamin Beber, Cristian Sánchez and Bernabé Wessolowski won the gold medal, after defeating Salta 15-6, San Juan 18-4, Chaco 12-4 and 14-12 to Mendoza in extra time during the group stage. In the quarterfinals they defeated Corrientes 15-8, in the semifinals they accounted for Santa Fe by a tight 13-12 and in the final, the team from Gualeguaychú defeated Córdoba 14-12 to win the gold undefeated.

In Mixed Archery, the Gualeguaychuan Ernestina Fernández and the Chajarian Juan Pedro Perini won the gold medal, advanced undefeated in the qualifying phase, in the round of 16 they defeated Tucumán 6-0, then they beat La Rioja 6-0 in quarters, achieving the pass to the semifinals in a great challenge against Santa Fe winning 5-4. In the final, Entre Ríos beat Córdoba 6-2 to win the gold medal.

In Boxing up to 52 kilos, Ayrton Araujo from Gualeguaychú managed to obtain the third gold medal for the local delegation. The Truckers representative made his debut in the quarterfinals against Salta, whom he beat by unanimous decision, moving on to the semifinals along with Tucumán, whom he defeated by RSC, accessing the final, where he beat the Chaco representative by points to win the title.

In Adapted Swimming, in the 25-meter Backstroke test, Máximo Rojas won a silver medal in the Sub 14 category, with a record of 23”08, ranking behind Ricardo Heredia from Jujuy. For his part, in the 25-meter freestyle event, Máximo Rojas won the bronze medal, placing behind Joel Ullúa from Chubut and Ricardo Heredia from Jujuy.
