The Austrian forward lost his life after being hit by a high-speed train in his country
Gerhard Rodax, former Atlético de Madrid player, died this Thursday at the age of 57 after being hit by a high-speed train in Traiskirchen, south of Vienna, according to the APA agency. The Austrian striker, signed as a great star by Jesús Gil, played for the rojiblanco team in the 1990-91 season and won a Copa del Rey with Atlético.
Rapid Vienna, the club Rodax played for after leaving Atlético, and various media outlets in his country, announced the death of Rodax, who allegedly suffered from serious health problems and lost his life due to a “tragic accident.”
Rodax lived in Traiskirchen, where he was a teacher at the tennis school. As a footballer, the Austrian goalscorer went on to win a Silver Boot with Admira Wacker a year before joining Atléticlo. He also played in the World Cup in Italy-90 with Austria, scoring in the 2-1 victory against the United States.
