Football World Cup: overflows in the center of Brussels on the sidelines of the Belgium-Morocco match

On the sidelines of the Belgium-Morocco match in Qatar, a crowd formed in the center of Brussels on the pedestrian area near the Palais du Midi. Dozens of young people gathered, some with a Moroccan flag on their backs.

Tempers flared when the referee disallowed Ziyech’s opening goal and the tension mounted further at the start of the second half. The approximately 150 young people present between the Stock Exchange and the Gare du Midi got angry. A trash can was set on fire, firecrackers and fireworks were set off.

The tension again rose a notch, the young people attacking the vehicles they passed. An empty rental car was damaged and thrown into other vehicles. Shortly after, a first pumper intervened to disperse the young people. Police and young people clashed for a few minutes.
