Football at its ugliest: Turkish goalkeeper attacked with corner flag, fight in Russia | Foreign football

Football: a party, but not in Russia and Turkey this weekend. In Russia, the top match between Zenit and Spartak Moscow got completely out of hand, but in Turkey they went even more over the line. There a goalkeeper was hit with the corner flag.

In the Izmir derby between Göztepe SK and Altay in the Turkish 2nd division, the match was halted after fireworks landed on the field. Some fans of home team Göztepe were also hit, so an ambulance came onto the field to evacuate some of the injured.

But then the best was yet to come: when Altay goalkeeper Ozan went to take a look at the ambulances, he was attacked from behind by a hooligan, who started to hit the keeper’s head with the corner flag.

The perpetrator was quickly overpowered by the police, the match was then permanently stopped.

The pots are also boiling over in Russia
