FC Barcelona: Robert Lewandowski suspended three games for “disrespectful” attitude

The Polish striker was sent off following two bookings. Before leaving the field, he made a gesture – touching his nose – which referee Jesus Gil Manzano took as a disrespect towards him.

In addition to the automatic one-match suspension, he was given two other suspension matches for showing “an attitude of contempt or lack of respect” towards the game director, the Spanish FA said on Wednesday.

Lewandowski, top scorer in La Liga with 13 goals in 14 days, should miss the derby against Espanyol – scheduled for December 31 – then the meetings against Atletico Madrid and Getafe.

“My gesture was for (his coach) Xavi, not for the referee,” Lewandowski assured last week.
