Electoral Commission announces COD candidates

SANTO DOMINGO.- The electoral commission that will direct the elections to elect the new executive committee of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) for the period 2022-2026 announced the applicants who will participate in the process scheduled to be held next Thursday, December 1.

To occupy the presidency of the COD are Antonio Acosta and Garibaldy Bautista, while Professor Nelson Ramírez and engineer José Manuel Ramos will act as first vice-presidency.

The second vice-presidency was registered by Rubén Javier García Bonilla, president of the Boxing Federation, and Irina Pérez Leroux, former head of the Sailing Federation.

Radhames Tavárez, president of the Swimming Federation, and Freddy Núñez, who chairs the Modern Pentathlon Federation, will compete for the third vice-presidency.

The general secretary faces Gilberto García, current occupant of that position and president of the Judo Federation, and Luis José Chanlatte Báez, head of the Wushu Federation. The candidates to occupy the post of co-secretary are Miguel Antonio Rivera, president of the Handball Federation, and Jorge Blas Díaz García, who chairs the Cycling Federation.

The candidates for the treasurer seat are Gerardo Suero Correa, president of the Athletics Federation, who holds the co-treasurer seat, and José Antonio Mera, head of the Skeet Shooting Federation. José Miguel Robiou Meléndez, president of the Archery Federation, and Edwin Rodríguez, who presides over the Gymnastics Federation, and who hopes to continue in office for another period, signed up for the co-treasury.

The president of the Bowling Federation, Luis Francisco Soto, and Lissette Sánchez Francis will discuss the position of first member, while, as second member, the well-known leaders Dulce María Piña and Maritza Ortiz will battle.
