Double victory for Monzón in Brazil

The tennis player from Corrientes Ignacio Monzón (24 years old) won two matches yesterday and advanced to the singles quarterfinals and doubles semifinals in the M15+H tournament that takes place in Lajeado, Brazil.

Monzón (499 in the ATP singles ranking) defeated local Vittor Leal (1,227) 7-6 (7-3) and 6-2 on Thursday in a match that lasted 2 hours 4 minutes.

The man from Corrientes had to make an effort to overcome the player who came from qualifying in the first set and in the second he achieved a greater difference. Today, in one of the quarterfinal matches, Monzón will face the 20-year-old Brazilian Gustavo Heide (419). It will be the first clash between them on the professional circuit. Later, Monzón (274 in the international doubles ranking), along with Cordova Huertas del Pino from Puerto, beat Brazilians Thiago Guglieri and Gustavo Tedesco 6-1, 6-4.

For a place in the final of the doubles draw, Monzón and Huertas del Pino will face the winners of the match that last night Gimenez-Zanellato played against Luz-Zormann.

The Brazilian tournament is played on courts with a clay surface and distributes USD 25,000 in prizes.
