For many the great favorite to win the trophy of the ATP Finals 2022the Serbian has shown through his statements that he comes with the necessary motivation for it. Novak Djokovic arrives in Turin after losing to Holger Rune in the Paris-Bercy final, but with positive recent months, especially on the indoor tour. I didn’t speak to him Media Day of the ATP Finals 2022 about what it would mean for him to end up lifting the title, how he feels in Turin and about his debut against Stefanos Tsitsipas, as reported on the official ATP website.

Djokovic intending to use his experience at the 2022 ATP Finals

“It would be the perfect end to the season, the icing on the cake, that’s for sure. However, it is a long road. Here you have to play against the best tennis players in the world. More or less you have to face almost everyone at least once, so I’m excited. I hope to use the experience in this tournament, in this format of several seasons and that it will serve me this time”.

Great welcome in Turin

“There was a great turnout last year. We feel really welcome and that we are treated in a special way. It’s a great thing for each of us individually, but also for this tournament and this country where tennis has been a popular sport for quite a few years. It is very nice to see that there is attention around the tennis players.

There is great anticipation surrounding the ATP Finals. It’s the last week of the year on the circuit, it’s kind of the last sprint for all of us. From the first game you are going to have a super high intensity, so we are trying to prepare as well as possible, but also enjoying these days a bit before the tournament starts”.

Debut against Stefanos Tsitsipas

“I have faced him in the last two tournaments I have played, in the final in Astana and in the semifinals in Paris. The two games were fairly close, particularly the last one in Paris. I know that a tough match awaits me without any doubt”.

Champion at the ATP Finals in 2015

“I don’t feel as young as the rest of the players and it’s been a while since I first qualified, but I’m in good shape, especially in the last four or five months. I won Wimbledon and most of the indoor tournaments I’ve played before the ATP Finals. I am motivated and I want to challenge. The intensity will be very high, I have to concentrate as if I were in the final from the first match”, explained Djokovic at the Media Day of the ATP Finals 2022 in Turin.
