Cubans Idalis, Granda and Silva lead teams to judo qualifiers

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 21 (ACN) Cuban judokas Idalis Ortiz, in over 78 kilograms (kg), Andy Granda (+100 kg) and Ivan Silva (90 kg) lead the women’s and men’s teams that will compete next 26 and 27 at the Convention Center of the Riu Plaza Hotel in Panama City.

Yordanis Arencibia and Julio Alderete, heads of the technical groups of the national teams ( women and men), told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) the 18 athletes who will be seeking tickets to the Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.

Undoubtedly, the multi-Olympic (1-2-1) and world (2-2-4) medalist Idalis, Granda, recent world champion, and Silva, silver medalist in Baku 2018, will be the main cards for medals, without excluding others with results to compete for medals and Central Caribbean places.

Despite the fact that Idalis has not competed much in this 2022, she appears in the top 20 of the world ranking, with a twelfth place, as well as Granda (third) and Silva (4).

The other eight chosen by Arencibia are Vanesa Godinez (48 kg), Blanca Elena Cabrera (52 kg), Arnaes Odelin (57 kg-seventeenth), Maylin del Toro (63 kg), Yusmary La Fita (63 kg) and Idelannis Gomez (63 kg). 70 kg), Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg) and Virgin Santa (78 kg).

Alderete completed the team with Milko Obregon (60kg), Orlando Polanco (66kg), Magdiel Estrada (73kg-fifteenth), Jorge Martinez (81kg), Michael Mkenzie (81kg), Heriberto Rivero (100kg) and Liester Cardona (100 kg).
