Cologne missed the Nice miracle
After Bayern, Dortmund, Frankfurt (all Champions League), Leverkusen, Freiburg and Union (all Europa League), only one German team does not spend the winter in Europe: Cologne!
In the decider of the Conference League there is a 2:2 against Nice!
Due to the lost direct comparison against Partizan Belgrade (0:1/0:2), only a win would have meant progress.
Within three minutes, Nice shattered all of Cologne’s knockout stage dreams.
40. Minute: Pedersen unfavorably clears the ball right in front of Laborde’s feet. He gets stuck and falls down, but jumps up again, passing Skhiri far too easily. The striker shoots in with the left!
Then there are big protests from Cologne because the ball may have jumped into Laborde’s hand. In the Conference League, however, there is only VAR from the semi-finals, so the goal remains.
43. Minute: the knockout! Kainz loses the ball on the center line. Nice switches quickly and sends Brahimi into the penalty area. A hook is enough to be able to shoot. Schindler deflects his shot slightly – the ball hits.
After the break, Cologne is clearly trying to make the miracle possible. Huseinbasic reduced the lead to 1:2 after a corner (48th). Duda brings FC back in with his goal (60th)!
But the hit is no longer enough. Cologne misses the Nice miracle and is out – as the only German team.
