City of Messina From tomorrow to Saturday 3 December the events scheduled for the “International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” » Municipality of Messina

From tomorrow, Thursday 1 December, until Saturday 3, the events organized on the occasion of the “International Day of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” will take place. This is what was illustrated today in Palazzo Zanca, in the presence of Mayor Federico Basile, during a press conference, which was attended by the Councilors, for Social Policies, Alessandra Calafiore, and for Equal Opportunities, Liana Cannata; the Disability Guarantor of the Municipality of Messina, Tiziana De Maria; the Delegates, provincial of the CIP, Francesco Giorgio, and to the disabled of the University of Messina, Fiammetta Conforto; the coordinator of the Diocesan Caritas, Nino Morabito; a member of the SSR (Società Servizi Riabilitativi), Carmelo Caporlingua; and the Paralympic Judo champion and testimonial of the event, Carolina Costa.
“These initiatives assume an important role – declared Mayor Basile during his institutional greeting – as they must lead us through a system of communication and aggregation to reflection and awareness, in order to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities , reaffirming the principle of equality and the need to guarantee them full and effective participation in daily life in a society that is fully accessible”. Mayor Basile then presented the champion Costa with a medal for athletic valor “for her great sporting performances” wishing her “new and equally important successes in sport and in life”.
“The municipal administration – Councilor Calafiore continued – is always sensitive to initiatives of a social nature. Our hope is that the value of this Day through our commitment can help raise the level of attention on disability issues and be able to break down the culture of indifference and discrimination. Three days of intense activities are planned, but the initiatives to keep attention on the subject will continue in the coming weeks in total agreement with the institutions involved”.
Councilor Cannata concluded the interventions of the Basile Administration, explaining that: “Saturday there will be a day of sport and inclusion for all participants in the event, since young and old, people with and without disabilities, will have the opportunity to get to know and try different Paralympic sports disciplines, thus enhancing the theme of being together in an integrated way, with the aim of encouraging and increasing Paralympic sports activity in the area”.
According to Francesco Giorgio: “It is important to build an institutional network involving the actors who deal with the issue of disability in various ways in order to be able to reach the highest possible number of people, involving them in this path of development of sport disciplines Paralympic”.
The program includes tomorrow, Thursday 1 December, at 10, in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate, at the University of Messina, a conference on the theme “The transformation towards a sustainable and engaging society for all”. Friday 2, at 10, at the PalaTracuzzi, a performance by Baskin – “Memorial Simona Siracusano” SSR Baskin Messina-Avola Baskin. Saturday 3, starting from 9 to 13, in Piazza Duomo, and in the event of adverse weather conditions at the PalaRescifina, “Lo Sport che Unisce” will be held, sporting demonstrations open to all: baseball, artistic gymnastics, 5-a-side football, volleyball, archery, tennis, basketball, table tennis, judo, muay thay, athletics, fencing, rowing, sailing, rugby, cycling, handball, powerlifting, mini volleyball, mini basketball and table football.
