The staging of the new Celta de Carvalhal was very good. The Portuguese coach gave continuity to the block that Eduardo Coudet had been using, but the sky-blue team played with a different gear. It was much more direct, with Carles Pérez on the right wing. Not even Chimy Ávila’s great goal, after a monumental defensive mismatch by Javi Galán on the left side, knocked down the Celta.
He kept attacking, and before achieving the tie he already had two good chances. In the first, Javi Galán, after a movie assist from Aspas, sent his shot high; in the second Aitor Fernández saved the goal from central defender Unai Núñez.
Balaídos pressed when the Argentine winger Franco Cervi played the trumpet. He surprised the Osasuna players with a very quick free kick, he made the wall with Javi Galán and then connected with Iago Aspas, who put the ball near the top corner.
But the joy barely lasted ten minutes for Carvalhal. His team went to the canvas again. Two shots between the three sticks and two goals, both from Chimy Ávila, the second with a header in which the Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín could do something more. ANDhe Porto exporter is far from the performance given by his compatriot Matías Dituro, whom the sky-blue board did not want to renew for a million euros despite Coudet’s wish.
The script of the clash did not change in the second half. Celta continued to dominate; the Osasuna scaring every time he stepped on the Vigo area. Budimir touched the third in two headers, just before Carvalhal made his debut to the Swedish Williot Swedberg, one of the signings of sports consultant Luis Campos who did not count for Coudet.
Javi Galán, as off-center in defense as he was incisive in attack, concentrated almost the entire sky-blue attack. Celta needed one last pass to reach the area, and Aspas was forced to delay his position to enter the game. With him out of the box, his team can play short, move the ball faster, but lose punch. Nor did Osasuna flinch, who was almost never seen in distress. He is able to stand with the lines together to await his opportunity.
From a long ball from Aitor Fernández came another one that Aidoo saved when Budimir was already preparing to finish off, a minute before Nacho Vidal silenced Balaídos with a volley that grazed the left post.
Celta filled up with the ball, but far from the area. Possession of him was barren. He found himself with a non-existent penalty due to hands, but Figueroa Vázquez ended up canceling it after reviewing it in the VAR. He kept looking for it, and Aspas with a spectacular Chilean came close to equalizing. The last one had Patience, but he met a great Aitor Fernández.
