Career record for Pöltl in Spurs defeat

Jakob Pöltl showed a strong performance on Tuesday (local time) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The center from Vienna posted a personal career record of 31 points in the 110-117 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

In addition, 14 rebounds meant the sixth double-double this season. Five assists and one block in 31:40 minutes rounded off the 27-year-old’s statistics.

Pöltl scored more than 30 points for the first time in an NBA game. He converted 14 of 17 two-pointers and had three hits on five attempts from the free throw line. The Austrian surpassed his previous record of 28 points with the Washington Wizards on February 25 of this year in Portland with the goal to make it 100:98.

He cracked the “30” a little later when he put his team in the lead with 106:100. The Texans eluded victory as they scored just four points in the final 6:50 of the game. In addition to top scorer Pöltl, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson were the strongest offensive players on the San Antonio side with 21 and 20 points respectively. For the Trail Blazers, the 117:110 meant their tenth win of the season.

The Spurs continue their trip to the US West Coast on Thursday with the Sacramento Kings. The team from the Californian capital played offensively on Tuesday and inflicted a 153-121 loss on the Brooklyn Nets. Led by Terence Davis with 31 points, seven Kings players scored in double digits.
