Canada is Davis Cup champion for the first time in its history

Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime won their singles matches against Kokkinakis and de Minaur, respectively, and achieved something historic: Canada won its first Davis Cup.

The left-hander prevailed in the first round 6-2, 6-4 over Thanasi while the right-handed player from his dream season (first ATP title, debut in the Top 10, ATP Finals) defeated Demon 6-3, 6-4 .

Canada had just beaten Germany (2-1) in the quarterfinals and Italy (2-1) in the semifinals. The group stage had been shared with Spain (they finished leader), Serbia and South Korea. It is the first Davis that Canada has won, which had been a finalist in 2019, when it fell to Spain.

Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime had been key to Canada’s ATP Cup win earlier in the season.
