BVB: end of career? – Confusion about statements by the Hummels mother! | Sports

A small subordinate clause causes great excitement!

As the Munich newspaper “tz” reports, Ulla Holthoff (64), the mother of Mats Hummels (33), could have indicated the end of the BVB star’s career after the current season at a pub event on Monday evening.

Please what?!

Sequentially: The sports journalist and former water polo player took part in a public themed evening for the Winter World Cup in a sports bar. It was also about the fact that her son was not nominated for the tournament in Qatar.

Holthoff, of course disappointed by the decision of national coach Hansi Flick (57): “I have decided to boycott all German games for personal reasons.”

And then the sentence that caused a lot of confusion: “I would actually watch these games if Mats played because it’s his last season.”

His last season? Does the Hummels mother talk about the end of her son’s career in the summer?

No! According to BILD information, their statements were misinterpreted. Holthoff did not speak of Hummels’ BVB career, but of that in the national team. She assumes that the World Cup would probably have been the last major tournament for the Dortmund defense chief.

He probably sees it that way himself. After the surprising end of the World Cup, Hummels let his frustration run free on Instagram, writing: “Unsurprisingly, this is one of the biggest disappointments of my career.”

One thing is clear: Hummels’ contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in the summer, but initial talks with the bosses are to be held in January. The 2014 world champion definitely wants to play for a few more years.

No wonder! Hummels regained his old strength in the first half of the season and was Dortmund’s undisputed chief of defense with strong performances. Only his time in the national team seems to be over.
