Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß has a lot of sympathy for FC Schalke 04: “I absolutely wish Schalke to stay in because I’m a great friend of the traditional clubs.”
“I want HSV to rise again. Werder Bremen is back now, but I would like clubs like Kaiserslautern and Hannover 96 to go up again,” said Hoeneß at an event organized by the Solidarity Fund Foundation NRW in Castrop-Rauxel the newspapers of the Funke media group. The 70-year-old received the honorary award for his social commitment at the gala.
Hoeneß said he was confident about FC Schalke 04 ahead of the season. “The climb was done and I thought they had a good transfer policy,” said Hoeneß. Nevertheless, he is surprised that it is so difficult for the bottom of the table. Schalke have only won two of their 15 games so far since they were promoted in the summer.
