Borussia Dortmund: puzzling Watzke hint at Rose-Aus Sports

BVB is (once again) in crisis!

After the 4-2 defeat against Gladbach on Friday and only 6th place in the table, BVB boss and DFL vice Hans-Joachim Watzke (63) presents himself in the BILD program “Die Lage der Liga”.

BVB coach Edin Terzic (40) has six points less than ex-coach Marco Rose (46, now RB Leipzig) at the same time last season (it was 31 at the time).

When asked about it, Watzke makes a mysterious suggestion on BILD TV as to why BVB has separated from Rose!

Watzke admits: “Marco Rose is a great coach, but we decided together to go our separate ways because a few things stood in the way and somehow he never really got off the ground. Something was there that wasn’t quite right. We don’t know for sure ourselves.”

Rose was released on May 20, 2022 after just one year as Borussia coach, Edin Terzic took over as coach at BVB.

Watzke on Terzic: “We’re still in the Champions League, and in the DFB Cup too. Edin is a guy who knows and loves the club, but he has a team that is still too volatile. But Terzic is doing a great job, so I’m sure we’ll be able to enjoy him for a long time to come.”

And further: “Terzic is highly regarded at BVB as a whole. I hear from everyone involved how meticulously he works. We’re still going to see great things from him.”

Then Watzke draws a big comparison: “Jürgen Klopp has dedicated himself to the club for seven years. I see parallels to Edin, who is also totally focused on the club. I also see that with Sebastian Kehl (BVB sports director, editor’s note) and it’s the same with me.”

“Aki” Watzke also spoke on BILD TV about the surprising World Cup exit from world champion Mats Hummels (33).

Watzke: “I’m in a difficult position. I’m responsible for BVB, but I’m also vice-president of the DFB. It wouldn’t be very stylish if I talked about the national coach’s decisions. I’ve spoken to both of them, Hansi and Mats Hummels, but I won’t talk much about it. But it is clear that Mats is incredibly disappointed.

Nevertheless, the BVB boss reveals details from the talks with Hummels, emphasizing that the Hummels ejection caused problems for the central defender: “The only thing I can reveal from the talks is that Mats was very pissed off. He’s won so many German championships and been so successful, that’s understandable. It took him a few days to get over it.”
