The Belgian clubs are well represented in Qatar: they supply 24 players for the final tournament. The clubs do not do this for free: they receive 10,000 euros per day of absence per player.

FIFA has released 215 million euros to pay out to the clubs that donate players to the national teams during the World Cup in Qatar. That is the same amount as four years ago for the World Cup in Russia and amounts to just over 10,000 euros per player per day. Clubs are reimbursed from the preparation period. FIFA divides the contribution among the clubs for whom the player has played for the tournament during two years. Even if players don’t play for a second, they are worth 10,000 euros per day to FIFA. Players in the final bring their clubs around 350,000 euros.

For European giants such as PSG and Real Madrid, such amounts are peanuts, but that does not of course apply to the Belgian teams. They are happy with every euro they can earn. All selections have been officially submitted to FIFA, twelve Belgian clubs are relinquishing a total of 24 players. Club Brugge is the main supplier with no less than eight players. In addition, three more clubs count more than one World Cup visitor: in addition to Club Brugge’s 8, these are Antwerp (3), Racing Genk (3) and Anderlecht (2).

AA Gent, Standard, Cercle Brugge, Charleroi, STVV, KV Mechelen and Eupen each send one player to Qatar. SK Deinze from the Challenger Pro League is also represented in the Middle East through Canadian Liam Fraser.
