Thomas Müller should pause in his employer’s last two games before the World Cup. “That’s a bit too much risk for me and not enough sense,” says Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Thomas Müller has to go into the World Cup without another competitive game. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is planning the last two Munich games of the year against Werder Bremen and FC Schalke 04 without the 2014 world champion. “The chance of an injury is already there if he starts too early. Since we are all fit, we don’t have to risk it. I think that’s also in his interest,” said Nagelsmann before the Werder home game on Tuesday (8.30 p.m., live in the WELT ticker and highlight video after the end of the game).

“I would just like to give him the peace and quiet before the World Cup to let the structure heal completely,” said Nagelsmann on Monday. “That’s a bit too much risk for me and not enough sense.” He also talked about it with the attacker.

The 33-year-old Müller had recently been stopped by problems in his back, hips and adductors. The 118-time national player wants to be fit for the World Cup, which takes place from November 20th to December 18th.

Just one more tryout

National coach Hansi Flick will nominate his World Cup squad on Thursday. The only test option in a game that Müller has is an international match against the national team of Oman on November 16 if Schalke does not play. On November 17th, the German team will move into their quarters in Qatar.

According to Nagelsmann, who will have to do without Matthijs de Ligt (knee), Josip Stanisic (tonsillitis) and Alphonso Davies (torn muscle fiber) against Bremen against Bremen, Müller is “on the mend”. Manuel Neuer, who returned to goal, is doing “very well”. He felt his shoulder a little more after the comeback game, but that’s normal. Neuer will also be in goal against Bremen.

Dutchman De Ligt’s return could come in Saturday’s away game against FC Schalke 04. Canadian Davies isn’t there either. “Fortunately, Alphonso Davies only has a small torn muscle fiber, he will be able to play the World Cup,” said Nagelsmann.
