Banki has been leading the Latvian national team since April 2021, and this month, under his leadership, the national team qualified for the World Cup final tournament for the first time, which will be held in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines in September 2023. Banki will continue to fulfill his duties also in the Latvian national team.

It has already been announced that the 37-year-old Latvian center player Bērziņš was added to the Strasbourg team last week for about one month.

From 1997 to 2006, 57-year-old Banki was the head coach of the Italian teams “Livorno” (A2 series), “Trieste”, “Trapani” (Lega 2) and “Jesi” (Lega 2). In 2001, he was the head coach of the Italian U-20 national team and the second national team.

From 2006 to 2012, Banki worked as an assistant to the head coach of Siena “Montepaschi”, but in the 2012/2013 season he managed this team himself.

From 2013 to 2015, the Italian specialist was the head coach of the Euroleague club Milan “Emporio Armani”. In 2014, Banki became the champion of Italy and the quarter-finalist of the Euroleague, and a year later, the team won the first place in the main tournament of the A series.

Later, he was the head coach of “Torino” in the 2017/2018 season until February, but at the end of the season he led the German team Bamberg Brose. In the following season, the Italian managed the Greek club Athens AEK, with which he won the FIBA ​​Intercontinental Cup, and in 2019 he was the head coach of Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar until November.

In the 2020/2021 season, Banki worked for the Long Island “Nets” farm club of the Brooklyn “Nets” of the National Basketball Association (NBA), which plays in the Development or G League, but last season he managed the Italian club Pesaro “Carpegna Prosciutto”.
