AS Roma upset that Tammy Abraham was dropped by the England national team

Tammy Abraham was not brought by the England national team to the 2022 World Cup. The decision made AS Roma really upset.

England has announced a squad that was brought to Qatar, to compete in the 2022 World Cup. Abraham’s name was not included in the Three Lions squad.

Abraham was dropped, and was replaced by Callum Wilson, the Newcastle United striker. Manager Gareth Southgate had said that Abraham’s recent sluggish performance was the cause, where he only made 4 goals and 2 assists.

Tammy Abraham is not the only English player belonging to Roma to be dropped from the 2022 World Cup squad, because defender Chris Smalling was also not brought in by Southgate.

Especially for Abraham, the Director of AS Roma Tiago Pinto questioned the decision of the England national team. He was annoyed at Southgate’s attitude.

“I can’t accept it, neither Roma nor other club representatives. People are trying to justify calling up the national team with what is happening at club level,” he told DAZN.

“If Tammy isn’t part of the England squad because he hasn’t scored in the last month, but they call up a player who was on the bench for his club yesterday, then Smalling should start,” said Pinto.

If you look at the record, Tammy Abraham’s number of goals at AS Roma this season does look declining. Last season, the Chelsea academy graduate scored 27 goals in his debut season with the Giallorossi, also winning the Europa Conference League trophy.
