Despite a burst of pride from Jessica Pegula at the end of the second set, it was Aryna Sabalenka who won her last pool match at the Fort Worth Masters on Friday (6-3, 7-5). A logical result as the Belarusian imposed her game. Even if she tensed up at the end of the game, Sabalenka pocketed her second victory in three games in the pool, after her victory over Ons Jabeur earlier in the week.
Pegula is already eliminated with three defeats in as many matches. For qualification in the semi-finals the scenario is much more complex. Sabalenka will have to wait for the result of the match between Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur to know if she joins the last four. If Sakkari (already qualified) wins, she qualifies Sabalenka. Ditto if Jabeur beats Sakkari in 3 sets. For the Tunisian to qualify, she will have to overcome the Greek in two sets, because she would go ahead unlike sets won.
