Arminia Bielefeld fails against 1. FC Kaiserslautern

Bundesliga relegated Arminia Bielefeld remains on the last place in the table after the 15th matchday of the 2nd division. Despite high morale, the East Westphalians lost 2:3 (0:0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Bielefeld played the entire second half outnumbered, came back after being 2-0 down and lost in the end.

Bielefeld’s Bryan Lasme saw a yellow-red card just before half-time (44′), which really got the game going. Phillipp Klement (54th) and Aaron Opoku (57th) gave the Red Devils the lead. Robin Hack equalized with a brace (60′, 74’/penalty) before Daniel Hanslik scored the winning goal for FCK shortly before the end (88′).

“If you play a game with one man less and then don’t score any points, it hurts twice,” said Bielefeld’s double goal scorer Hack at Sport1: “We played good football, we can build on that.”

A week after the bitter 1-0 defeat in the relegation duel against Greuther Fürth, Arminia had everything under control until half-time. Janni Serra had the first opportunity, but failed with a header to FCK keeper Andreas Luthe (7th).

Then Bielefeld weakened itself: Lasme missed Kaiserslautern’s central defender Boris Tomiak in the opposing sixteen with a high leg ahead, only a few minutes earlier he had seen the yellow card after a tactical foul.

FCK took full advantage of the majority at the beginning of the second half and took the lead with the double strike. Out of nowhere, the combative East Westphalia managed to catch up and then equalize. Whipped up by the euphoric spectators at the Bielefelder Alm, Bielefeld had the winning goal in the final phase, Hanslik ruined the dream comeback.
