Apple interested in buying Manchester United, really?

Could Apple be interested in buying English football club Manchester United? The rumor comes from Daily Star, a British tabloid whose reliability is not necessarily foolproof. The duck maintains in any case that Tim Cook would be personally at work, while the most capped club in the United Kingdom is officially for sale — we are talking about a budget of approximately $7 billion. One of Apple’s projects would be to create a new stadium aimed at becoming a world reference.

We know that Apple likes to diversify its activities in recent years, and sport is one of its new hobbies. From 2023 and for the next ten years, Apple will notably broadcast American MLS soccer on Apple TV worldwide. It’s a $2.5 billion partnership, and Apple is already creating its own advertising agency to make the investment profitable beyond subscriptions.

There are undoubtedly lots of synergies to be found – we do not know if Ted Lasso would be interested in the position of coach – even if the takeover of a football club does not seem to make sense at first sight. It also remains to assess the risks, financial of course, but also in terms of image. In any case, it is a rumor to be taken with the maximum of hindsight as long as it is not confirmed by a less rowdy source.

Update 11:00:

A site source MacRumors indicates that the information would have been invented from scratch by the English tabloid.
