Anti-violence centre: “In Chieti, requests have grown by 50% in one year, including support for children”

The activities of the Alpha anti-violence center in Chieti were presented this morning. In the historic hall of the prefecture together with the president of the Alpha cooperative, Maria Laura Di Loreto, the prefect, Armando Forgione, the mayor Diego Ferrara, the councilor for social policies, Mara Maretti, Paola Spadari councilor of the order of journalists and the ‘Alpha lawyer Ernesta Bonetti.

To our microphones Maria Laura Di Loreto listed last year’s data: 252 women who turned to the Center for information, psychological and legal advice. Particular attention is also paid to the minors involved, with a space managed by psychotherapists and psychologists in which children can rework what they have experienced.

The age group of women who ask for help the most is between 30 and 39 years old (36 per cent of the total). However, the average age has dropped: the first requests for help arrive as early as the age of 17.

The abuser often has “the house keys”: in 43 percent of cases it is the husband or in any case the partner.
