Angels acquire Twins third baseman Gio Urshela

ANAHEIM, Calif. —The Los Angeles Angels acquired Minnesota Twins third baseman Gio Urshela for right-handed pitcher Alejandro Hidalgo on Friday.

Urshela batted .285 with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs in 144 games, a career high, last season.

He only played one season in a Twins uniform, who acquired him following a five-player trade that notably sent Josh Donaldson to the New York Yankees.

Urshela, who could become a free agent next season, had his best major league campaign with the Yankees in 2019. He batted .314 with 21 long balls.

The Colombia native has spent the majority of his MLB career playing third base.

The Angels signed third baseman Anthony Rendon to a US$245 million contract, but he played only 105 games over the past two seasons due to injury.

The Los Angeles squad could also need a starting shortstop.
