Aggrieved Ronaldo, even after Portugal’s victory, continues to insist that he has indeed touched Fernandes’ cross | Qatar World Cup

Portugal is the third country after France and Brazil to secure a place in the eighth finals. It won 2-0 against Uruguay thanks to two goals from Bruno Fernandes, although Cristiano Ronaldo thinks otherwise. The Portuguese star is convinced that he did touch a Fernandes cross, while it did not appear so on the images.

Portugal had won its first match at this World Cup 3-2 against Ghana and could therefore secure a place in the eighth finals against Uruguay. For that, it again counted on Cristiano Ronaldo, who undoubtedly saw Lionel Messi liberate Argentina against Mexico on Saturday.

The Portuguese immediately took control of the game, while Uruguay, as expected, pulled up a double defense belt and aimed for the counterpunch. Despite the many possessions, Portugal did not create opportunities and even escaped when Bentancur was unable to convert a wonderful dribble into a goal. 0-0 was the all in all logical rest position.

After the break came the first commotion of a field attacker with a rainbow flag, but it somehow inspired Portugal. Because barely a few minutes later, Ronaldo seemed to extend a cross from Bruno Fernandes with the crown in goal. CR7 celebrated exuberantly as usual, but hadn’t counted on the replay to show that he didn’t even touch the ball. Ronaldo smiled green, and even after the final whistle insisted that he had hit the ball.

Uruguay then had to come, but got no further than a short but intense siege. Gómez saw the equalizer explode on the post, Suárez aimed into the side net and De Arrascaeta couldn’t get past Costa. Portugal survived and even ran to 2-0 via a converted penalty kick from Fernandes again. And so Ronaldo and co qualified after France and Brazil as the third country for the eighth finals. Uruguay still has to play full against Ghana.
