About 600 runners start the Montilivi solidarity race

The first edition of the Montilivi race has filled the surroundings of Girona’s municipal stadium with a sporting and supportive atmosphere this Sunday morning. Some 600 participants, even though they initially registered close to a thousand runners, have turned the initiative into a complete success.

The cold this morning did not scare the athletes, many of whom preferred to run in short sleeves even though the temperature was close to 0 degrees. Moments before the start of the race they were trying to warm up by doing the last warm-up exercises.

And after a commemorative photo of the boys and girls from Casal de Salt, who also took part in the test and were the real protagonists since the profits go to the organization to which they belong, the horn sounded the start of the race.

Since the most important thing was not the result but to contribute to a charitable cause, the feeling conveyed by the runners at the start was excitement and happiness, and not the nerves and tension typical of other events without this conjuncture. Many of them, in fact, were already taking it easy.

The top finishers in the five-kilometer race arrived after 20 minutes, and since then a steady stream of athletes has filled the finish line. The winner in the shortest distance was Miki Hernández, who took more than a minute from the second place, Joan Rabasseda, and almost two from the young runner, Eston Sutherland.

In the 10 kilometers, Jordi Baixés beat Marc Cassany by just 10 seconds, and the third, García-Campero, arrived less than half a minute behind. In women, Sílvia Vilaseca, who was very close to the first 10, was the best in the distance of 5 kilometers. In the 10th, Merche Martín won.
