A thousand athletes enjoy the sights of Les Gavarres in the Mountain Race

The Girona Mountain Race raised passions again last weekend with nearly 1,000 participants who traveled through the most iconic landscapes of the Massís de les Gavarres.

The area of ​​Plaça Sant Domènec gradually warmed up from mid-morning, with the arrival of the top finishers in each race and also with the rise in temperature after a cold night and morning.

The public gathered around the finish line for the top finishers. An animated announcer announced when they were about to take the last turn to the square, and then the applause broke out amid the narrator’s shouting. It almost went unnoticed, however, the arrival of the winner of the Transgavarres, the most demanding route with 50 kilometers and 1700 meters of elevation gain that started in Palamós at 8 am. It was Alberto García.

In the finish line there were also sprints between runners to finish one place higher, and some participants wanted to do these last meters accompanied by their children and family.

As the runners arrived, the refreshment area also filled up. The athletes were talking to each other about how the race had gone as they recovered their strength. On the other hand, in Sant Domènec there was also an inflatable area for the little ones. The day closed at around two in the afternoon, with the awarding of prizes in the different categories.

The Girona Mountain Race is an appointment marked in red on the calendar of trail lovers in Girona and its surroundings. It is one of the tests that is part of the events organized by the Klassmark brand throughout the year. The other races that are held in the regions of Girona are the Rocacorba Trail, the Costa Brava Trail, the Cap de Creus Trail and the SGRail 100.

In the star test of Transgavarres, the winner was Alberto García, who managed to drop under four hours (3:57:28). Jordi Bes and Elias Resina were second and third with 4 hours and 5 minutes and 4 hours and 10 minutes, respectively. In the female category, Anna Tarasova (4:46.32) prevailed over Geertje Schreurs and Arta Muixí, who were far from the time of the first place.

As for the other races, Ivan Calvo and Martina Alemany won in the Trail, and Jan Torrella and Olivia Mitchell in the Express. On the other hand, the Kids race took place on Saturday, a non-competitive activity aimed at the little ones that consisted of a semi-urban circuit of 600 meters through the city of Girona itself.
