A desert in Madrid against Estudiantes for Alimerka Oviedo Basketball: new defeat and feeling of impotence

At halftime in the match that Alimerka Oviedo lost (90-60) yesterday against Estudiantes at WiZink there was a contest for crawling babies. The little ones competed with each other to reach the ball as soon as possible, something they did with difficulty. But at least they competed among equals. Something that the OCB did not do against the Madrid team, against whom they defended themselves with the same agility as the babies. He tried at times, but to no avail.

The opponent in front of him seemed to be from a different competition, he played at a different speed and at times a different sport. All the difficulties that the Asturian team suffered to show something positive turned into facilities for the rival on the other side of the pitch.

The former OCB Atencia and Jorgensen punished the hoop time and again with talent, a lot of quality, but also with facilities that they will have found in few LEB Oro games. At the break, the OCB had received 53 points for the 34 they had scored. Bad in defense and bad in attack. Only a few sparks were saved and the good image left by Romeo Crouch, who usually played accompanied by another point guard, whether it was Peñarroya or Alonso.

For the rest, there is little that Alimerka Oviedo can hold on to after this game, without Martí due to a sprain, apparently slight, in the same knee in which he has been injured for a year. A complete desert and desolation.

The OCB’s exit from the locker room after the break was not the worst of the game. There were details, some attempt to defend with intensity, some stealing the ball, a small intention to run and have fun on the field, for a change, but all very ephemeral and immediately responded to by the opponent. The team from Oviedo reduced the lead to 16 points, but finished the set again above 20 to face a last quarter that was a nightmare. The beginning of these last ten minutes was an exercise in absolute impotence. The OCB was unable to fight until the end, seeing how the rival had fun and surpassed him in all facets.

The best of the match were the around 80 fans of the Asturian team in Madrid and also the feeling that after this match it is time to make some kind of change in the squad, whatever it may be. Seven losses in seven games. This team needs something to change and start working.
