ROVIGO – In the extraordinary season of the fiftieth, which is now drawing to a close, baseball for the blind also played an important part. The project, which has become a real flagship for the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo, has developed month after month between competitive and promotional moments, helping to take another step towards the ambitious goal of creating a real regional reference center for the beat and run for the blind. A mission also fueled by the recent registration of the company in the Cip: in fact the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo becomes the first baseball company that offers both activities for able-bodied and activities for the disabled in affiliation to the Italian Paralympic Committee.
This year the activity, as always skilfully coordinated by Loris Bucca, took place in full harmony on the Rovigo-Verona axis. The Baseball Softball Club Rovigo has in fact found in the friends of Crazy San Bonifacio the ideal shoulder to increase the movement, which has already allowed to gather about fifteen athletes who train regularly in the diamonds of the two provinces. “After the positive experience of last year in the Serie A championship together with Staranzano, this year we have dedicated more attention to promotional activities – explains Bucca – We have finally arrived at the San Bonifacio diamond, where we have started to offer a stable business. to be able to give even the visually impaired in the province of Verona the opportunity to have easy access to the discipline. Both in Rovigo and in San Bonifacio, our watchword is always the same: to bring as many young people as possible to the field to try out baseball for the blind. But the real goal is to develop all-round motor activity, which is why we have also explored new disciplines such as torball and blind-tennis. In winter we will also do some days in the mountains to try cross-country skiing. 2023 will continue under the banner of multidisciplinarity, but there is already the idea of participating in a promotional baseball tournament for the blind in view of a new future registration in the federal championship “.
The 2022 vintage will be remembered for the first edition of the “Lions Blind Date”, an event organized jointly by the Lions For Pets Rovigo and the Baseball Softball Club Rovigo, which at the end of March saw the rossoblù team descend on the diamond in via Vittorio Veneto on the field in a friendly match against Leonessa Brescia during a day full of many other initiatives, first of all the demonstration of guide dogs from the Limbiate Training Center. From a competitive point of view, the participation in the bxc tournament in Bergamo should also be mentioned, which saw the boys from Rovigo win a prestigious victory against an English team, and the successful friendly match against Verona.
As mentioned, there are also many promotional activities. From the Open Day organized in San Bonifacio together with Crazy, to participation in a Pon project with the middle schools of Verona. The diamond from Rovigo, on the other hand, hosted a regional course for visual orientation technicians, which also saw the rossoblù athletes take the field for a demonstration. The second edition of the regional baseball trial for the blind was also held in the Polesian capital, with the participation of 16 boys and girls from all the Venetian provinces. Finally, the Rovigo team was among the protagonists of the “Great Challenge” in Verona, the main Veneto sporting event dedicated to sport for the disabled.
