The Germans had been talked about by putting their hand in front of their mouths before their entry into the running against Japan.
The image had gone around the web: the Germans, just before their match against Japan, covered their mouths with their hands to silently denounce the problems in Qatar.
A political and controversial gesture which was entitled to its response on Sunday evening during the shock against Spain. Indeed, several Qatari supporters were present in the stands with photos of Mesut Ozil and their hands over their mouths.
The latter, with the photo of the former international, referred to the words of Ozil who had left the selection in 2018 accusing them of racism: “I am German when I win but an immigrant when I lose”.
