Women’s Barca | The women’s Barça bills 8 million

“I think that we are at the beginning of something very big in the sponsorship of the female sport. There is a long way to go. We are going to see many more collaborations. Society in general is turning more and more to women’s sports and I am convinced that the brands will also do so,” Luis Doncel, general director of GLS Iberia, explains to EFE.

Spotify appears on the front of the game jersey and training clothes in a joint deal with the men’s team; Bimbo will be on the left sleeve of the game clothes, as published by the ARA newspaper; Heüra carries out actions to make society aware of the benefits of eating protein of plant origin; and GLS is the global logistics sponsor.

In addition, the women’s Barça has the sponsorships of Nike, Estrella Damm, CaixaBank, Cupra, Allianz, Gatorade, Stanley (previously it was on the front of the game shirt), Coca Cola, Scotiabank and Banco BMG. The investments of these 14 brands will contribute 8 million euros per year that will allow the whole of the Ballon d’Or Alexia Putellas fight again to win the Champions League after last year he was left with honey on his lips in the final against Olympique de Lyon.

In the case of GLS, a British-owned logistics company with headquarters in the Netherlands, it will be the global logistics sponsor of Barça women for the next three years, until June 30, 2025. The first contacts between GLS and the Barça club They took place at the end of 2021 and the agreement was signed at the Joan Gamper Women’s Trophy held at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on August 23.

“When we signed at the Gamper I had the opportunity to meet some Barça players and I saw them as humble, hard-working, receptive and eager to do things,” says Doncel. GLS began in the world of sports sponsorship in 2019 with the World Padel Tour and currently sponsors the Spanish players Bea González and Lucía Sainz.

”Thanks to the relationship we have with them We have seen that women’s sport excites us a lot because behind it we see the current of professionalization and that girls already see that they can have a future in sport. The truth is that we feel very comfortable in this type of sponsorship”, continues the general director of the British brand in Spain.

In addition, Doncel wants to make it clear that the sponsorship with the Barça club, in the same way that they have in the world of paddle tennis, seeks to go beyond the fact that the brand is shown. “The paddle tennis players come to give clinics to our clients and our employees. I hope that in this collaboration agreement with Barcelona we can achieve something similar”, he wishes.

But, despite the fact that the agreement was signed a month and a half ago, it is still not clear what the activations of the sponsorship will be. “Last week there was a meeting between the GLS and Barça marketing teams. The roadmap is being defined.”

“At the moment, nothing is closed. But between the two teams there is a desire to do things, simple things that give us visibility”. Precisely, since the sponsorship agreement was signed on August 23, two events have taken place that will significantly increase the visibility that GLS will have. The first of them is that DAZN is broadcasting the eight matches of each day of the F League on its YouTube channel.

“For us it was a positive surprise because when we signed the sponsorship it had not yet been announced that it would be like this. When we signed we were looking to support a model, that of Barcelona for women, which is a successful model”, says Doncel.

The second fact is that the team led by Jonatan Giráldez will play again at the Spotify Camp Nou after breaking the world record for attendance in a women’s football match twice last year. He will do it on November 24 against Bayern Munich and on December 21 against Rosengard. The two games belong to the group stage of the ‘Champions’.

“When I read the news, the first thing that came to my mind was: Will we break another record?” admits Doncel. “This is another great news for women’s sport. This goes far beyond Barça. The club’s bet does not come from one or two years ago, there is a model. What they are doing is enviable”, she sentences.
