Manchester City have once again made it clear who is boss in the city. After a huge demonstration, United’s neighbors got no less than 6 goals. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were both good for a hat trick.

Striking statistics from the Manchester derby:

  • Erling Haaland is the first player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick in 3 consecutive home games. The Norwegian also scored 3 times against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.
  • Erling Haaland has only been around in the Premier League for 56 days, but has already scored as many hat-tricks (3) as Cristiano Ronaldo in the English league.
  • Phil Foden and Erling Haaland are the first two Manchester City players to score a hat-trick against Manchester United in the Premier League.
  • Erling Haaland not only scored a hat-trick today, but also provided 2 assists. There seems to be no doubt about the MVP today. Although Phil Foden (3 goals) and Kevin De Bruyne (2 assists) are allowed on the podium.

Phenomenal Haaland eats United with skin and hair

After the win against Arsenal and a 12 out of 12, Manchester United went to the Etihad Stadium with the necessary confidence. Although the visitors were only presented with their first real test with city rival City.

It soon became clear that it was not going to be an easy afternoon for the Red Devils. Foden cleverly appeared in the box and kicked the opening goal past a hopeless De Gea.

United gasped for breath, but were completely knocked against the canvas before half time. In barely 4 minutes De Bruyne served buddy Haaland twice, after which Foden put the heavy 4-0 figures on the board before half time.

The visitors came out of the dressing room better and even softened after a nice curl from Antony. However, their hopes were soon dashed again after both Haaland (on the order of substitute Sergio Gomez) and Foden completed their hat-tricks.

Guardiola thought it was enough and took De Bruyne, among others, to the side. United once again showed signs of life, although Martial’s two late goals remained just a blanket for the bleeding.

Aké: “We are currently in a good flow”

Nathan Ake (Manchester City): “We started the game well and were able to score quickly. We were immediately dangerous and showed our intentions. That also gave us extra confidence in the game. The supporters were right behind us and that only helps.”

“We are in a good flow and have scored very nice goals. There were also periods when it was less, such as in the second half. I think we were too lax, so we still conceded 3 goals.”

“With the arrival of Haaland, we can play differently than last season. We can put balls behind the defense and he is incredibly dangerous on counter and corner kicks.”
